Jumping Spider

A little jumping spider was jumping along the shelf at my desk today, so I figured it might be a great time to test out the macro mode on our new camera.  I learned a few things as a result:
  1. macro mode doesn't work if you are using a high zoom
  2. jumping spiders move very quickly
  3. it's very hard to take macro shots of jumping spiders
So I wound up taking a few photos using the automatic scene setting.  Not sure if it shot in macro or not, but these two sort of came out.

Getting ready to dive off my shelf onto my desk
This jumping spider had interesting white stripes on its legs and back.

Fleeing from the camera
The photos weren't clear or big enough to really tell what kind of spider it is, but Phidippus audax seems to be a common type of jumping spider in the New Jersey area and it also has white markings.  This spider that I saw didn't have bright teal mouth parts like other photos of Phidippus audax have, but
my photos weren't ideal either.

When I was a kid, I always wanted to become an entomologist.  I don't think I would have liked the field work though.
